AHI Receives Financial Contribution from NRC-IRAP
Thursday, April 29, 2010Atlantic Hydrogen announced that it has received a financial contribution of up to $1.153 million, in addition to both technical and business advisory services, from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) in support of a research project to further the CarbonSaver green energy technology development.
"The overall objective of our CarbonSaver process is to develop a new, more energy efficient technology," said David Wagner, president and CEO of AHI. "This contribution from NRC-IRAP will enable us to further develop our technology in advance of our entry into the commercial markets late next year."
When completed, the project is will produce increased knowledge and an improved process to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from a wide variety of natural gas-burning devices, such as large stationary power generating installations, reciprocating engines, boilers and gas turbines.
Research on the CarbonSaver technology started eight years ago. The unit has gone from the drawing board to lab-scale, to bench-scale and to an Alpha demonstration-scale unit. AHI is currently planning the demonstration of a Beta demonstration-scale unit which will be tested at AHI's Wilsey Road location. This unit will incorporate the developments that are expected to arise from this NRC-IRAP-supported project. A field demonstration will follow.
In addition to the use of the hydrogen-enriched natural gas fuel directly by natural gas-burning machines, further reductions in residential and commercial appliance applications are possible through the enrichment of natural gas at the pipeline level through local distribution centers. Such a system would treat the natural gas where it comes into the city, making it available for use by all appliances and other end uses.
