David Wagner, President & CEO, has been invited to sit on a panel at the US National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) summer committee meetings being held in Seattle on July 21, 2009. NARUC is an association representing US public service commissioners who regulate essential utility services, such as electricity, gas, telecommunications, water, and transportation, throughout the country. For discussion:
Natural gas is already an important part of the solution to climate stabilization as it has the smallest carbon footprint among fossil fuels. At the same time, it is becoming more abundant in North America with new shale gas discoveries. Nevertheless, natural gas can be even cleaner with the advance of new energy/environmental technologies. One such technology known as CarbonSaver has been developed by Atlantic Hydrogen, Inc. CarbonSaver uses electricity to dissociate some of the hydrogen and carbon that make up methane in natural gas. The carbon is removed as a solid before combustion and the free hydrogen enriches the remaining natural gas. This avoids the creation of CO2 and leads to lower emissions of other pollutants, such as nitrogen oxide (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned methane. The hydrogen-enriched natural gas or HENG can also improve the fuel efficiency in gas-fired combustion, all using existing natural gas infrastructure and end-use equipment available today. The commercialization of this technology has significant potential public policy implications for energy use and energy storage.
